Volunteer Opportunities

EDUCATION

In addition to spaying and neutering animals, public education will help keep the unwanted animal population down.

Note: Volunteers who will be working directly with children are required to pass a RCMP criminal screening.

Currently, the following volunteer positions are available at the Safe Haven

Adult

Educators

Adult educators are needed to assist with school presentations. The Adult Educators play a key role in whether the Society will be successful in getting the message out to each child that they are responsible for the well-being of their own pets. Adult Educators will be expected to guide, and work with, Youth Educators.

Youth

Educators

Youth Educators are needed to assist in running youth clubs and summer activities. This involves being a role model for younger children and passing on the message of responsibility of pet ownership. You will be working with Adult Educators and assisting in developing ways to make lessons fun and exciting for children.

Some activities under consideration for the Educational Program are:

School Education Program: Visiting schools and teaching animal care and ownership responsibility.
After School Program: For elementary-aged children who want to come to the Haven after school. They perform volunteer duties in a monitored group environment.
Special One-On-One Program: This involves both Adult and Youth Educators and is designed as a hands on for kids and adults with special needs and as an opportunity to interact with animals and learn handling techniques and responsibility for the animal.
Saturday Morning Program: Runs similar to the after school program.
Summer Camp: A week-long educational day camp.
