SPAY & NEUTER CLINIC

Spay/neuter surgery removes reproductive organs, so cats and dogs cannot have offspring. Spay/neuter surgery is performed under general anaesthesia. Animals usually return to normal activity within 24 to 72 hours. Contrary to popular myth, spay/neuter surgery does not spoil a pet's personality, nor does it make dogs and cats fat and lazy. In fact, spay/neuter surgery has health and behavioural benefits.

Spaying (Ovariohysterectomy) - removes the ovaries and uterus from female cats and dogs to prevent the animal from conceiving and giving birth.

Nuetering (Orchidectomy) - removes the testicles from male cats and dogs to prevent the animal from impregnating females.

DID YOU KNOW?

One female cat along with her offspring, can potentially give birth to over 1,000 cats in ONE year.

In seven years, that number grows to a staggering 420,000!

Benefits of Spay / Neuter Surgery

  • Spay/neuter surgery removes reproductive organs that often cause dogs and cats to have medial problems in later life
  • Spaying at an early age prevents uterine infections, which can be fatal. Diseases of the ovaries and infections of the uterus are a major cause of illness in unspayed pets.

  • Spaying reduces the incidence of mammary (breast) cancer, a very common form of cancer in unspayed dogs. Dogs spayed before their first heat have no chance of developing mammary cancer.
  • Neutered dogs do not develop prostate problems or testicular cancer.

  • Altered dogs and cats are more relaxed pets because they are not driven to mate. They are less likely to roam, so there is less chance they will get lost, injured or killed.

  • Neutering reduces aggressive behaviour toward other animals and decreases the likelihood of fight-related injuries.
  • Neutered dogs are less apt to urinate in the house.

  • Altered cats are less inclined to spray.

  • Spayed dogs and cats don't go into heat with its related temperament and behaviour problems.
  • Spaying and neutering can decrease negative behaviour traits, such as leg mounting, persistent barking and plaintive meowing.
  • Spay/neuter surgery also has humane benefits. It reduces pet overpopulation. It leads to fewer unwanted litters and fewer homeless animals in shelters and on the street.
